                     Head Coach Carl Parrick

After 34 years as an assistant coach, Greg Raby, takes on the reigns as Bonita Vista’s new varsity head football coach. Coach Raby is no stranger to the program as he has coach football at Bonita Vista High for 20 years and served as a retired head coach Carl Parrick’s assistant coach for 30 years.

Coach Raby began his career at Mar Vista High in 1976 and joined Carl Parrick as an assistant coach in 1981. He was named assistant head coach in 1982 and became the Raiders defensive coordinator for the next decade .Together Parrick and Raby resurrected a Raider program that had only been the worst in the county winning less than ten games in their six seasons. Over the next eleven seasons the Raider program would produce over eighty victories and capture a League Championship in 1982. Coach Raby came with Coach Parrick in 1992 to Bonita Vista and quickly built the Barons into a winning program. In 12 seasons as defensive coordinator Raby’s defense gave up a near 12 points per game, produced six league championships include two ten winning seasons in 1993 and 2005.

Coach Raby has received numerous awards as an assistant coach. In 2002 he was named by AFLAC to its prestigious Nation Assistant Coach of the Year Award. In 2007 he was named by the Southern California interscholastic football coaches association as an outstanding assistant coach receiving the GIB Dear Award. He has coached many All-League and All- CIF players including Scott Shields, who was All- American at Weber State and was drafted in the second round by the Pittsburg stealers in 1998. He also coached Byron Frisch an All-American at BYU and a second round pick of the Tennessee Titans in 1999. Coach Raby has made several changes that he feels will bring great benefits for the Baron Football Program .He has hired Joe Romano as strength coach to help the Barons improve their strength, quickness, and physical conditioning. Coach Romano is “Awesome”, says Raby. He is helping us develop a tough mental attitude and improve our overall strength and quickness. Coach Mark Pyrz has been named Assistant Head coach and will work with Coach Romano to improve our strength and conditioning program, as well as coach the varsity offensive line. Coach Mike Johnson was hired as a defensive coordinator and linebacker coach. “Mike is an excellent teacher and knows how to instill a winning attitude in our defensive players”, says coach Raby. Matt Lambert has been promoted to the Varsity defensive back field coaching position and will bring a wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm and fire to the defense.

Coach Raby has hired Jonathan Stewart to coach the quarter backs and the wide receivers. Coach Stewart is a very experienced coach, a great teacher of fundamental skills and knows how to attack defenses. With veteran coach PJ Castro on the defensive line Raby feels he has an outstanding coaching staff that will emphasize improving fundamental skills and play with a great deal of passion.

I am really excited about being hired as Head Coach. I have an excellent Booster Club, enthusiastic parent support and an outstanding group of returning players. I look forward to having a great season- see you at the games- Go Barons!
